The University of Central Florida offers an LNC course in three-hour sessions for ten weeks. Participants are given case assignments and asked to prepare both verbal and written reports for the lawyer, risk manager or claims manager. Students identify the elements of negligence and locate and select appropriate experts.
In the spring 2007 session there were about 70 registrants, with the majority attending live on-line. Participants may also attend in Orlando. Course cost is $995.
The UCF LNC course is intended for RNs with five years of clinical experience. The program was designed by Pamela Curren, BSN, RN, LNCC, and it targets nurses who plan to enter the field or enhance their skills.
In 2007, UCF began promoting internships as a next step for course participants and has partnered with Rose Clifford Internships.
